European Commission has approved the Agreement for Belene NPP

The EC Directorate General for Energy and Transport has issued a positive opinion to NEK EAD concerning the agreement between NEK EAD and Atomstroyexport signed on 29 November 2006, as notified to EC in accordance with Article 105 of the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community (the Euratom Treaty). Article 105 refers to agreements concluded with third parties prior to the EU accession of candidate countries.
Having examined the documents submitted by NEK EAD, the EC energy-related services could not find any element that would be in breach of the Euratom Treaty.
The conclusion of the European Commission is that Bulgaria can continue to implement the agreements notified.
