BulАtom took part in the BEMF International Conference

The Fourth International Conference with an exhibition entitled: “SMR AND ADVANCED WORLD NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS” was held in the period April 10-11, at the Sofia Balkan Palace Hotel, organized by the Bulgarian Energy and Mining Forum.

At the invitation of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Petar Manchev, a representative of Bulatom, participated as a moderator at the opening of the conference, and also participated in the closing session of the conference.

Among the key topics of discussion during the two days of the event were:

  •  EU and other policies for SMR deployment;
  •  SMR Readiness for Market Applications: World Review and Financing Issues;
  •  Regulatory aspects of SMR;
  •  Industrial applications of SMR and refurbishment of existing coal plants.

One of the recommendations resulting from the talks and discussions is to reaffirm the position expressed by Bulatom more than three years ago on the need for a clearly stated and long-term policy regarding the development of nuclear energy in Bulgaria, which would provide a clear framework within which new projects will be implemented – including for units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy NPP, for the MMR and in the future for the implementation of new nuclear capacity at the Belene site.
