BulАtom held a Meeting with Students from Dr. Petar Beron Mathematics High School, Varna

As part of its Traditional International Nuclear Conference, held on 10–12 June 2026 at the Riviera Holiday Club, BulАtom organized a meeting with students from one of the most prestigious mathematics high schools in Bulgaria – Dr. Petar Beron Mathematics High School, Varna.

The event took place on 11 June and was attended by students from the 10th and 11th grades.

The lecturers were Stanimir Kalburov from Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant and Emil Kichev from the Technical University of Sofia, Department of Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering.

After watching a documentary film about Kozloduy NPP, Stanimir Kalburov introduced the students to the scholarship programmes and the working conditions at the nuclear power plant.

Emil Kichev presented the educational programmes offered by the Department of Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering and the professional development opportunities available to graduates.

Both lecturers highlighted the significant need for engineers in Bulgaria – not only in the fields of thermal and nuclear power engineering. This need is particularly relevant in connection with the project for the construction of Units 7 and 8 at Kozloduy NPP.

We were pleasantly surprised that more than half of the attending students expressed a desire to continue their education at technical universities in Bulgaria. They also shared interest in visiting Kozloduy NPP to learn more about the plant’s operations on site.

BulАtom representatives – Krasimira Petrova and Irena Yordanova – informed the students about the opportunities the association provides to schools when organizing such visits, including logistical support and financial assistance.

All of this once again reaffirmed our conviction that meetings with students are of great importance – they not only spark interest in the activities of our nuclear power plant but also present young people with new professional opportunities that they often lack sufficient information about.

BulАtom extends its gratitude to the teachers from Dr. Petar Beron Mathematics High School, Varna, represented by Svetlana Traykova, for their cooperation in organizing the meeting.

We also thank Kozloduy NPP and the Technical University of Sofia, Department of Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering, for their support in implementing these initiatives.
