BulAtom held two consecutive meetings with students in Pleven and Lom
On November 12 at the Mathematics High School “Geo Milev” The fourth consecutive meeting organized by BulAtom was held. More than 150 students from grades 10 and 11 with intensive study of mathematics and physics from four schools in Pleven region took part in it.
The event was also attended by Albena Toteva – Head of the Regional Department of Education – Pleven, Kalinka Kirilova – Senior Expert in the Organization of Secondary Education in the RUO Pleven, Polya Borisova and Lidka Donkova – Chief Specialists in the Department of Education and Youth Activities in the Municipality of Pleven.
Our lecturers at the meeting were: Tsvetelina Beshirova from Kozloduy NPP, who introduced the students to the scholarship programs, as well as the working conditions that the plant provides from the Technical University of Sofia, Department of Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering – chief assistant Emil Kichev and Victoria Mondeshka, who presented the training programs at the department and the opportunities for realization of students upon completion of their studies. The meeting continued with a discussion where the students had the opportunity to ask questions that were answered comprehensively.
On November 13, the fifth meeting organized by Bulatom was held at the “Nayden Gerov” Profiled High School in Lom., successor of one of the oldest high schools in Bulgaria, established in the autumn of 1878 by a decision of the Provisional Russian Government, initiated by Prof. Marin Drinov. The impressive and well-maintained building was opened at the beginning of the school year 1882/1883 personally by Prince Alexander I of Battenberg.
The meeting was attended by students and teachers from the profiled classes of the high school in “Software and Hardware Sciences” and “Natural Sciences”.
Lecturers at the meeting were Stanimir Kalburov – Head of the Efficiency Assessment and Improvement Department at Kozloduy NPP, chief assistant Emil Kichev and Victoria Mondeshka from the Department of Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering at the Technical University of Sofia.
A film about the Kozloduy NPP, made on the occasion of the plant’s 50th anniversary, aroused great interest, and the students watched it with great interest.
In the discussion that followed, the students asked questions that were obviously of interest mainly to the working conditions provided by Kozloduy NPP, whether by graduating in software and hardware sciences, they would be able to realize themselves there and where, surprising for us was the question: “Is there a department at the nuclear plant that deals with risk assessment and what analyses are carried out?”.
Evidence of the great interest of the students at both meetings in Pleven and in Lom the subject was not only the duration, which was longer than the time allotted for the purpose, but also the fact that long after their completion, those who failed to ask their questions stayed and got the opportunity to do so. This once again proved that the young generation is not indifferent and is keenly interested in nuclear energy and our nuclear power plant.
BulAtom thanked the Regional Education Department of Pleven, the management of the Mathematical High School “Geo Milev” in Pleven and of the “Nayden Gerov” Profiled High School in Lom for the cooperation and good organization of meetings with students.
We would also like to thank Kozloduy NPP and the Technical University of Sofia, Department of Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering for the support they provide us in the implementation of these meetings.
