BulAtom’s meeting with students from Montana

he second of a series of meetings organized by Bulatom was held on October 23 at the High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics “St. Kliment Ohridski” Montana.

This time the lecturers at the meeting were Stanimir Kalburov – Head of the Efficiency Assessment and Improvement Department at Kozloduy NPP and Assoc. Dr. Eng. Kalin Filipov – Head of the Department of Department of Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering at the Technical University of Sofia.

After the presentations given by Stanimir Kalburov about the Kozloduy NPP and the scholarship programs and working conditions provided by the nuclear plan, and by Assoc. Prof. Kalin Filipov about the training programs at TU Sofia, a long discussion followed with the students present.

The students were mainly interested in the working conditions at the Kozloduy NPP, what dangers the work in the plant hides, how the spent fuel is stored, what are the advantages of nuclear energy over other renewable energy sources.

To one of the questions of the students asked Stanimir Kalburov whether he was worried and whether he was risky working at Kozloduy NPP, he answered: “As an engineer on duty at the unit, I have never been worried when I went to work, because I know what the abilities of my colleagues are and what my abilities are. The operational staff of the plant is made up of highly qualified and responsible people. They have gone through years of study, preparation and training. It is not easy to become one and there are few people chosen to work there.”

A large part of the students present expressed a desire to visit and see Kozloduy NPP. The Executive Secretary of BULATOM Stanislav Georgiev informed them that the Association annually supports visits of students from all over the country to our nuclear power plant and it is up to them to make this a reality.

BulAtom thanks the RUO Montana and the management of the PMPG “St. Kliment Ohridski” Montana for the good organization of the meeting.

We also thank our lecturers from Kozloduy NPP and Department of Department of Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering at the Technical University of Sofia for the interesting presentations and support.
