The Global Nuclear Industry Affirms Its Strategic Role and Speaks with One Voice in Paris
At the World Nuclear Energy Summit held in Paris on March 10 under the patronage of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), 25 national and international organizations from the nuclear industry signed a joint declaration. The document highlights the key role of nuclear energy in sustainable, secure, and low‑carbon energy systems and supports the global goal of tripling nuclear capacity by 2050.
The initiative, led by GIFEN, brings together representatives from 22 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The declaration emphasizes the importance of nuclear energy for economic development, energy sovereignty, and the stability of electricity prices.
The signatories call for predictable financial mechanisms to support long‑term investments in the sector.
The document also recognizes the role of innovation—from large reactors to SMRs and AMRs—in meeting future energy needs, as well as the potential of nuclear technologies in areas such as hydrogen production, heating, desalination, nuclear medicine, and scientific applications.
It underscores the need for investments in education, skills development, and operational excellence.
GIFEN President Xavier Ursat stated: “With this joint declaration, the global nuclear industry reaffirms in Paris its collective commitment to contributing to the energy and economic independence of nations, as well as to climate action. As the demand for low‑carbon electricity continues to grow worldwide, nuclear energy is increasingly establishing itself as the energy of the future—an area in which the French industry stands out through its comprehensive offering, integrated industrial chain, and strong innovation ecosystem.”
Signatories : GIFEN (France), NIA (United Kingdom), Belgian Nuclear Forum (Belgium), FinNuclear (Finland), AIN (Italy), IGEOS Nuclear (Poland), ABDAN (Brazil), OCNI (Canada), CNA (Canada), SAF et NSS (Slovenia), Nucleair Nederland (Netherlands), UNF (Ukraine), BulAtom (Bulgaria), Swiss NuklearForum (Switzerland), KAIF (South Korea), Foro Nuclear (Spain), NIATR (Turkey), JAIF (Japan), FICCI (India), ROMATOM (Romania), NNA (Norway), NuclearSweden (Sweden), CNEA (China), Nucleareurope, World Nuclear Association
