Meeting Between BULATOM and Ms. Rumyana Petrova at the National Assembly

On 6 October, at the initiative of BULATOM’s management, a meeting was held at the National Assembly with Ms. Rumyana Petrova, Chair of the Parliamentary Energy Committee in the 52nd National Assembly.

Representing BULATOM at the meeting were Mr. Bogomil Manchev, Chairman of BULATOM’s Management Board, Mr. Petar Manchev, Member of the Board, Mr. Stanislav Georgiev, Executive Secretary, and Mr. Sabin Sabinov, Manager of Selmeda Ltd., a member company of the association.

During the meeting, Mr. Bogomil Manchev presented BULATOM’s position regarding the need to preserve the long-term role of nuclear energy as a baseload power source, ensuring a stable energy mix for Bulgaria. He also outlined the analysis and supporting data upon which this position is based.

The discussions also focused on the preparation and adoption by the National Assembly of the Strategy for the Sustainable Energy Development of the Republic of Bulgaria until 2030, with a horizon extending to 2051.

According to Mr. Manchev, the strategy’s timeframe should be extended until 2060 and should include not only the construction of Units 7 and 8 at Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, but also two additional 1,000 MW units at the Belene Nuclear Power Plant site. The need for the latter is further substantiated by the analysis accompanying BULATOM’s position, which was presented to Ms. Petrova during the meeting.

In conclusion, Mr. Bogomil Manchev expressed his gratitude and satisfaction, both personally and on behalf of BULATOM’s management, with the productive meeting held with Ms. Petrova. He also noted that she is the only Chair of the Parliamentary Energy Committee in many years to have responded positively to BULATOM’s request for such a meeting.
