BulAtom and the Embassy of Vietnam Discuss Prospects for Cooperation in Nuclear Energy
On 8 October, at the request of the Embassy of Vietnam in Bulgaria, a working meeting was held between H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of Bulgaria, and Mr. Bogomil Manchev, Chairman of the Management Board of BulAtom.
During the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen briefed the BulAtom leadership on the “Master Plan for the Development and Application of Atomic Energy up to 2030, with a Vision to 2050,” approved by the Government of Vietnam in February 2025. A central element of the strategy is the revival of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project in southern Vietnam, which envisages the construction of two nuclear power plants: Ninh Thuan 1 (Phuoc Dinh) and Ninh Thuan 2 (Vinh Hai).
For his part, Mr. Manchev welcomed the efforts of the Vietnamese Government to advance the development of nuclear energy and informed H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet about the opportunities that BulAtom and its members can offer for the exchange of expertise and knowledge in the design, construction, and operation of nuclear power plants.
The meeting also focused on the prospects for cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria in the field of nuclear energy, as well as on the opportunities for BulAtom to support the organization of an online seminar entitled “Vietnam and Bulgaria: Sharing Experience and Exploring Opportunities for Cooperation in Nuclear Energy and Flexible Energy Systems”, which the Embassy of Vietnam plans to hold by the end of this year. The seminar aims to establish an initial platform for networking among interested institutions and companies, identify specific opportunities for cooperation, and strengthen institutional ties between Vietnam, Bulgaria, and European partners.
On behalf of the BulAtom leadership, Mr. Manchev assured H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet that BULATOM would support the preparation and organization of the seminar, as well as the implementation of other initiatives aimed at deepening cooperation between Bulgaria and Vietnam in the field of nuclear energy.
